Senior Picture

Yeah, so I made this in the basement last night and on the computer today. She's been helping me break in my new lighting equipment. We're not sure if her parents will spring for the deluxe package or just go for the wallets.

Indian At The Beach Today

C could tell you more about this thing than I can. All I know is that I had to help get it into, then out of, then into, then out of a truck. Between the loading and unloading I made it say 'cheese' and did some glamour shotz. So, let me see if I have this straight: the right grip is the spark advance, the left grip is the throttle, the left pedal is the clutch, the jockey shifter is on the right side. All of that adds up to confusion.

got red hair, gotta lay her down

Here's a shout out to all the people who stopped at the intersection I wiped out on while making a left. Even though you were all thinking 'You got what you deserved, you asshole motorcycle who cut me off back there', I forgive you.

Bikecicle

That is a picture of my frozen breath.  My breathing tube, which prevents my goggles from fogging, dumps out below my belt onto the front of my seat. That is a pile of frozen breath.

loaded burgler alarm

yes, i spelled it wrong on purpose.
i found that my phone was working better for pictures today, so i took a couple at the shop. then, i went into downtown to pick up TV Tommy Radio's ironhead that was the first bike I did the overall to a couple months back now. He rode the thing from Florida to here, steel balls and a little looney.
I had to get Steg's giant F150 into a tiny alley and then into a weird parking garage to load the thing, which was entirely terrifying for me because I haven't driven anything bigger than my body in such a tight place in a very long time. When I got her back to the shop, I asked Steg to give me a hand unloading it. He was all pissy cuz a couple knockers had been annoying him the entire time I was gone. He said "This is a one man operation, you're gonna hafta figure it out."
I told him the ramp was missing its notches, or latches, or hooks, or whatever should be there to hold it to the truck bed. I told him the ramp had slipped off when I loaded the bike, but not until I had it all the way on. He was annoyed.
"That ramp ain't goin nowhere; now do it already."
Working the chincy front brake with my right hand, I backed the bike out as slow as I could without making Steg blow another gasket. Ugh, what an annoying pun.
I got to my knee and got down on the ground still holding the brake and the bike upright and started its final descent when the front tire started sliding down the ramp, thus pulling the ramp off the truck and the bike crashing to the ground and bouncing off the ramp and onto me. Luckily, I think Steg had pissed me off enough that I was all firey and righted the bike an inch before it touched the ground on its left side.
No harm. No foul.

Here's the servicar I've been putting back together. It got its tranny out, clutch plates, clutch, kicker, etc. It won't kick over. Battery's good, spark is good, we dance another day.

Here't the cursed PreacherMan's bike. Steg had to lay her down when the throttle locked open on him coming up on an intersection. Since that, the fucking thing has been a nightmare. Last week Wednesday we had her all buttoned up and Steg took her for a ride down the street with no problems. We adjusted the clutch to remove a little slipping he felt in high gear, and when PreacherMan showed up after being dropped off...it wouldn't shift. Not for nothin. We had to order a new set of clutch plates that we are waiting for. Poor PreacherMan had to wait 2 hours to get picked up. He's a dick anyway.

Here is the most current project. This old dude bought this motor brand new with only the intention of having it all chopped up and uglyfied. His swingarm is without fail the ugliest thing I have ever seen. I wish you could see the struts we have to replace the stock ones with. Even with some paint, it's still godawful. He paid an extraordinary price for a hugely fat rear wheel and front wheel that were cut from a single piece. Then finished and painted with spiderwebs. We are building the wheels and hubs tomorrow. I need to get stronger for all the flipping around we did the frame and motor when we fit them together yesterday.

This is the 66 XLCH we are going to be going headlong into pretty soon. I painted the heads and lapped the valves. Waiting for guides so I can put the heads on it and start the rest.

This is my little Kawi. I like it a lot. I did all of the wiring for this bike. It was my first lesson in soldering, routing, making the switch, and a basic hardwire diagram. I mounted the switch real pretty on the left side of the frame by the seat. It was kinda hellish to get the holes at the right angle and then tap them to match each other for the bracket on the switch. I was like a proud parent when it came together.

This is our security. "One's always in the chamber."

orange crush generator pt2

i've named this project CHRYSSA and PIGPEN CRAMP ERON'S STYLE!!
Chryssa will be here in a little less than two weeks, and while I SHOULD be baking christmas gingerbread and wearing raindeer sweaters and writing christmas cards i'm sitting in this cold ass garage trying to make sure I have a total of three running bikes so me, pigpen and her can all go for a december blast when she get's here.

there is one gray wire that comes from the field windings up through the brush mount plate and bolts to the top of the plate. remove that wire from the plate and you can pry the plate off.

DSC03298

you'll notice in the pic above one of the brushes has popped out of it's guide and one hasen't. they should both pop out. there is a spring behind them that pushes them against the end of the armature. if they get jammed up then they don't make full contact with the armature and you don't get good charging. this was prolly the biggest problem with this generator. the plate itself is real nasty and the wires and terminals are all corroded and shit. the inside of the main part of the generator is pretty nasty too.
DSC03304
DSC03305

you can insert a flat screwdriver between the main generator housing and the drive side housing end and pry them apart.
DSC03309

the feild coils will stay with the main housing and the armature will stay with the drive side housing end. i lightly clamped the drive side housing/armature in a vice so it would be easier to work with.
DSC03312

the feild coils are held to the inside of the main housing using a short bolt that goes through the housing from the outside and threads into a hole in the middile of a curved plate on the inside. the coil is between the inside of the housing and the plate. as the bolt is turned the plate pulls the coil tight against the housing. you can see what i mean below. you can also see how gross all the shit in there is. sludgey and crappy.
DSC03322
DSC03323

here's a pic of all the water and crap that was in the drive side housing end.
DSC03319

i used some 1000 grit sandpaper, and pb blaster and brakeclean and a rag to clean up the copper (or whatever) end of the armature and the shaft. when using sand paper for this you gotta be careful cuz all the windings have electrical sealer on them that dries kinda like a clear paint. you don't wanna sand off any of this electrical sealer. i also lightly scraped between each copper section with a blade and then a thin screwdriver to remove any "brushdust" that had piled up in there. there needs to be a clean gap between each copper section.

this is about as far as i wanna take this thing apart. i'm hesitant to remove the field coils becuase the old cloth insulation on them is old and may deteriorate if i disturb it and they seem to work right now. i'll prolly pull the armature and bearing at the drive side and make sure that looks okay.

MURDER MITTEN CYCLE WORKS

Well, I got the frame and tank back from EJ on Sunday. He Sleeved the outside of the two lower legs and tiggered the other joints, so it will be bullet-proof. I got some paint on her on Monday night and started putting her back together last night with the help of Filthy Frank and AA Eron. It went rather smoothly. We did have to remove the rear rocker box so we could get the frame lined up with the engine. Then we put the front end back on and mounted the tank and the rear wheel. So here it sits until I get the chain, sprokets, brake stuff, oil tank, fender, sissy bar, and cam cover cut down. Thanks to all who have got this project this far.
P.S. I'm thinkin' of a name for her. What do you guys think????? Any ideas????
